Episode 41 – Changes

There is a change of tune from Laurie and Mark this week, as the positive vibes from last time out are thrown out of the window following the 0-0 draw with Ross County.

Agree with Mark about Levein leaving his role as Head Coach at the end of he season and going back to a role as Director of Football or some such thing. Dont think a section of the fans would accept anything other than Craig leaving the club tho. Enjoyed the podcast as always.

Thanks for the comment David, glad you enjoyed the show. It will certainly be interesting to see if Craig can move back to his previous role, if indeed his tenure as Head Coach doesn’t last beyond the end of this season. As things stand a lot of fans will find it hard to accept though, as you say. I think the main thing is that if/when changes are made there is absolute clarity about what is happening, why and what the long term plan is.

Gents, I’m mostly with you re Levein, I’ve not been one of the boo boys and I’d be pleased to keep him in the DoF role as I think in that role he was a huge part of saving/rebuilding our club. too often folks lose sight of the actual mess we were in only a few years ago. While Id like nothing more than for him to turn it around, I do feel his time is up – but not sure I can buy into the ‘write off this season by keeping him in role’ idea… yes it often doesn’t work to make a hasty change, but football is also littered with examples of mid season changes that do work out for the best. Steve clark joined killie mid season, didn’t Jim Jefferies do the same for us, look at the impact solkjaer had at man u last season – arguably a situation not unlike ours where ‘better’ players are being held back by overly conservative tactics. Ok so that went downhill after 15 games or so but the point surely stands that the right man now is better than the right man in 10 months time…. Agree 100% though re identifying the ‘next’ guy, and it needs a better man than me to decide that!!

…sidenote on managers, I was performing with a band recently in Khabarovsk in far eastern Russia. I happened to come across the local football team SKA Khabarovsk who recently had one year in the Russian top flight (10 hour flights for domestic games anyone?!). A familiar name came up in their past managers – a certain mr Valdas Ivanauskas! Not our finest manager, but a cup winner none the less, whos name I would hardly expect to hear in Edinburgh never mind 4000+miles away in the Russian wilds šŸ™‚

Great show, thanks for keeping it up, Living away from Scotland these days its great to have some hearts chat to kill time to šŸ™‚ cheers, Iain

Thanks for the comment Iain. Very good points about mid-season changes often having a positive impact at clubs, there are certainly examples of a change of boss at this stage working out. It can be a bigger risk as well though, which I guess is everyone’s worry. Then again, when is any managerial change not a risk eh? As things stand I think an immediate change is not on the horizon, however if we hit a really bad run and the negative atmosphere at Tynecastle escalates then I’m certain the decision will have to be taken. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that though!

Nice reference to Valdas – had to look up his Wikipedia page to see exactly where he has been of late. Certainly gets around! Did they know much/anything about Hearts over in eastern Russia?

Thanks for listening to the show, glad you’re enjoying it.
