Regarding our defeat to Brora, as bad as it was, it would have been a complete knee-jerk reaction to sack Robbie. Unfortunately, too many fans are prone to knee-jerk reactions after a bad loss.
Robbie’s primary objective was to get us out of the Championship at the first time of asking, and we were sitting top of the league with a decent margin. Had we been struggling in the league and looking like we might not get automatic promotion, then the Brora result might have been the final nail in the coffin for Robbie.
Thankfully, those in charge at Hearts look at the bigger picture, and despite the disappointment and embarrassment of losing to Brora, they recognised that this was a blip, albeit a huge one, and that Robbie was still the right manager to get us back into the Premiership.
Fast forward to today and it’s clear they made the right decision. I love it when I see members of the knee-jerk brigade happily admitting they were wrong. Whether that’s those who were clamoring for Robbie’s head, or wanted Sibbick out, or Michael Smith out, or Josh Ginnelly out.
No doubt if we somehow manage to lose to Hamilton in the next round of the cup, the Robbie out brigade, who have been very quiet of late, will rear their ugly heads again.
