Episode 11 – Nepotistic Cronyism

After a controversial couple of matches, Laurie and Mark discuss the nepotism, cronyism and general ineptitude of Scottish refereeing. Mark also looks ahead to the second half of the season and how Hearts could potentially line-up after the winter break.

In regards to VAR I really think it is a no brainer to add into Scottish football, but I feel like the cost may be off putting to SFA.

As an American Hearts supporter, the usage of VAR in the MLS recently has been great overall. Decision are quickly made and really helps the referees avoid the blowback of bad decisions, if a bad call is overruled correctly, the outrage is a lot more minimized and allows referees to get on without the amount of heat they used to receive.

Penalties, Goals, Red cards and mistaken identity are the only four categories and does not bog the game down with repeated usage. Of the games I’ve been to over the course of the last two season I would guess I’ve seen it been used only two or three times.

Cheers guys, keep up the great work!

(Sidebar, Laurie try listening to your mic playback, was listening to latest episode and you are very faint compared to Mark, had to turn up volume pretty high to hear your clearly).

      Hi William,

Thanks for your comment, we’ll keep this in mind when we discuss VAR next time.

Apologies about the sound issues, I tweeted about it but possibly should have mentioned something in the actual podcast post above as well. Basically I’m in the process of getting a new sofa and the fact I recorded in my near empty living room, which has original floorboards, created a real issue with an echo. I had to play about with it to make it audible, however it’s far from perfect – as you noticed. Apologies, next time I’m going to be more aware of the room acoustics for recording (will just try to do it in the carpeted bedroom again I think…)

      Thanks for listening!

      Laurie
